Where in the world is your animal found?
The sea otter can be found mostly in the
North Pacific. The  locations of the  three
subspecies are around the coasts of
California to Mexico, the north western
caostal area of North America and
Alaska, and in the western areas of the
 north Pacific.
What is the diet of your animal?
 Sea otters generally eat mussesls,
 crabs, abalones, snails, urchins, clams,
 fish, octopi and squid.
What is the habitat of your animal?
Sea otters live in the costal and
shorline areas of the oceans. They prefer
both the soft and rocky bottoms in these
areas. The otters in California especially
like the dense kelp beds in the
 surrounding areas.
Is your animal a herbivore, carnivore or omnivore?
The sea otter is a carnivore.
Is your animal a primary, secondary or tertiary organism?
The sea otter is a secondary organism.
Who are your animals main predators?
The sea otters main predators are bald
 eagles, sharks, killer whales, coyotes
 and brown bears.
Why your animal is endangered?
During the fur trade, these animals were
nearly hunted to extinction. Though this
era has ended and the otters numbers
are rising again, there are new dangers
that are appearing. Fishing gear causes
otters to become tangled in them,
especially gill nets. Also, competition for food with fishing companies is a very
important factor. Even killer whales are
adding to this problem. As the poulations  of the Stellers sea lion and the harbour seal have declined, the killer whales have been preying continually on the sea otters.

 Did you know???

~ The sea otter's scientific name is Enhydra Lutis.

~ Sea otters are the only mammals, except primates, to have discovered the use of tools.

~ Sea otters rely on their fur to keep them warm, unlike other marine mammals, who need blubber.

~ The sea otter's three subspecies are the Californian sea otter( Enhydra lutris neresis), the Alaskan sea otter( Enhydra lutris kenyoni) and the Rusian sea otter(Enhydra lutris lutris).
